AAA batteries are commonly used in small electronic devices, such as TV remotes, MP3 players, and digital cameras. Devices that require higher current intensities often use AA batteries instead. AA batteries have three times the capacity of AAA batteries.

However, with the increase in efficiency and miniaturization of modern electronics, many products originally designed for AA batteries are being replaced with models that accept AAA batteries. An AAA battery measures 44.5mm in length and 10.5mm in diameter.

AAA alkaline batteries weigh about 11.5 grams each, while lithium AAA batteries weigh about 7.6 grams, and rechargeable (Ni-MH) batteries usually weigh between 14 and 15 grams. The nominal voltage of both alkaline and lithium AAA batteries is 1.5V, while Ni-MH or NiCd batteries have a nominal voltage of 1.2V. The capacity of alkaline AAA batteries typically ranges from 900 to 1155mAh (3240 to 4158 coulombs).
